Despite a rough showing in the fourth quarter, the US stock market ended the year with gains.
The Dow Jones industrials ended the year up 6.4% while the NASDAQ was up 9.8%. The S&P 500 was up only 3.5% due to the index being heavily weighted with financial stocks, which took steep losses in the last four months.
